Architect. Montreal

Julien Nolin is an architect and the founder of Base Habitation, a Montreal company that designs ready-to-build homes made from natural materials.
He studied architecture at Carleton University in Ottawa, then completed a master's at the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen, in the Architecture and Extreme Environments program. His projects there were set in Svalbard, Greenland and the Amazon, and taught him to design for climate first.
He worked on competitions with Saucier + Perrotte, including the Pavillon de verre at the Jardin botanique and Le Diamant in Quebec City. In 2022 he started Base Habitation to make well-built, low-energy houses simpler to get. Base Camp, its first prototype, opened in the Eastern Townships in 2026.
He also runs his own practice, Julien Nolin Architecture, and once spent his evenings drawing wine bottles for Beau Joe. He lives in Saint-Henri.
